Hey you JohnnyRude experts, My 68 55hp has been collecting an oily residue around the top below the timer base and down the right side of the powerhead, seems to be around the split in the case, no pooling or dripping just a film of oil and gunk. Is this something to be looked at?
BTW it runs just fine other than wanting to stall when engine has been run for a while, starts after 3-5 mins cooling.

The upper crank seal is probably going away. It's replaceable without tearing the engine apart but, I wouldn't say it has to be done right away. As for the motor wanting to stall after being run, I'd suggest you replace the impeller and also the T-stat. It's sounds like it's running hot.
