Dad bought 16' 68 Larson model 41685 Sport / Fishing tri-hull with factory installed Merc 1000ss serial 2412563 in June 69. We ran on Mississippi in Quad cities for a dozen yrs. Brought it to Austin TX in 88. Replaced all wood, added sky tower. Great tube puller and fishing boat on Lake Travis. Been on blocks under cover for last three years. Was used on 4 July and Labor day two years ago. Used 24' pontoon with 115 Honda 4. Kids & grandkids moved to Denver at X-mas. Sold pontoon. Wife hates noisey, stinky Merc. Am going to repower with Yami or E-tech. NADA on Merc is about $150. Last Sunday mixed two gallons fresh gas, put on the ear muffs and fired the Merc right up. Pee hole still working just fine with pump that has not been replaced for at least 5 years. Question is what is the value of an old motor like mine when the NADA is essentially nothing? Austin TX is not an outboard oriented city. Question does the sale value of old boat motors vary a little or a lot across the county? Merc has never been run in salt. I replaced all fuel hoses two years ago. Idles at 600-700 rpm (the dealer that tuned it could not believe it). The point being, I know the complete history of the motor vs a motor that has no known history. Question does it really make a difference when buying a used motor. Since I am going to repower with a used motor and have a used motor to pass on, how do you sell a motor or buy a motor for fair value?
