Hello all,

I have a 68' mercury 500 and while I had the cover off I noticed that there are several black hoses on th right side (if looking from the back) of the motor could anyone tell me the size of those hoses and where I could get replacements? I broke one of them and it smelled like fuel when I put my nose to it. I have to order parts and muddle my way through because I can't affor a mech to look at it. Thank you for your time

If you can run non-eythanol gasoline(fuel) constantly, replace only that hose. If you run gasoline with eythanol, then I suggest (as I was told by a merc tech) to change all internal (inside the covers) fuel hoses with todays fuel hoses. Eythanol destroys old fuel lines and thus causes carb problems. I used 1/4 inch or 5/16 inch hose and fittings from auto parts store. Of course, use thread sealant on all fittings. It will take you about 2 hours to change the lines and fittings out. You will have to use your imagination install fittings to connect the lines between the carbs, but it's not difficult. (Disconnect battery and remove Starter and possibly the coil)

I think I can get away with just that line, I always use non-ethonl fuel. I broke it up near the fitting also so I think I could just place a new fitting on it (after I cut it strait) and screw it back in I just need to find the right size fitting now!!, Thanks a ton blue!!
