'68 Model Number, last letter

Hey all,

I have just become the proud owner of 1968 Johnson 40 Electric, M/N RDSL-30C.

My concern is with the "C" at the end. I have read somewhere that this likely just indicates some small changes that occured durting the production year. My question is to what inpact?

In shopping EBAY for service and parts manuals I have found ones covering "D" thru "S".

I was wondering what effect this letter would have on service info and components. I just want to make sure that the books I buy apply to my motor.

I also have my eye on a potential "D" motor for spare/parts.

You can check for any parts difference here. I doubt it would effect the general service but there may be some small differences in carb or electrical.

That is just the model run or suffix. Nothing to worry about.

Too bad you werent closer to me, I have a couple good parts motors for sale that Id give you cheap.

The mid year engineering change was the lower unit gearcase and water return tube. Only a concern if you need to buy any of the associated parts. In that case, the parts book will tell you which ones you need.

So, F_R, the lesson here is to buy a "C" parts book for a "C" and a "D" parts book for a "D"..... Thanks for the info.

If you buy a factory service manual, it should cover all models in your year.

Those old 40's are a dime a dozen up here. I assume they are everywhewre?
