69 25 hp Evinrude LU

[69 Alumacraft]

I purchased a LU on ebay and in place of the large bolt in the rear is a threaded stud, can I leave it and use a nut to attach the lower unit or does it have to be removed and a bolt put in its place? It is a short shaft.

it sounds like you bought a gearcase from an early 1980s 25 hp motor. I would trust the change OMC and leave the stud in place.

Thanks much, I looked at the part diagram and agree,Is that stud is aluminum or stainless?

Didn't the 80's have thru the hub exhaust? Wouldn't think that they would work on a 60's motor.
