OK, this has too be simply you'd think:
I got a 33HP '69 Johnson electric start that the recoil starter like won't line up right. I took it off originally to check /replace the spring as I figured it was worn out as it rewound very slowly . Put new spring in everything lines up (that took a while
) and with the starter off I can pull it and it rewind great all day long. Now , when I mount the starter back on top of the flywheel and bolt it down it either wont engage (the teeth aren't grabbing ) or if I wiggle with it counter clock wise while lining up the recoil starter to the bolt hole and pull on the rope I can see it is catching and the fly wheel is turning . In theory I thought the "teeth" of the recoil starter where suppose to lash out when the rope is pulled . these aren't doing that ?????
what can I be missing?
the electric start works fine I just like to have the option to pull start case the battery dies or something
