Hello all,

My 1969 6hp Evinrude (model 6902m) idles great etc but when i go wot it bogs big time.

With the throttle wide open, I'll pinch the fuel line closed and it keeps bogging for a bit then goes to high rpm's (runs good) then dies from no fuel...

This motor is new to me so I'm not sure if there was a problem before etc...

Prior to running the first time (with the bogging issue) I rebuilt the carb and forgot to put the boss gasket in place (the one around the high speed tube that seats to the bowl)... Thought that would be the exact problem causing the bogging (np right lol)

After putting the boss gasket in place... it still bogs...

The float level is parallel to the main carb (upside down)...

Checked/cleaned the mating surfaces to the boss gasket and they look good.

Also checked the surfaces around the fuel inlet area to make sure it wasn't leaking into the bowl...

I'm at my (simple carb) wits end....

Any ideas???
Thanks

Have you checked the quality of your spark?

When you pinch the fuel line it causes the motor to "lean out" which will increase rpms and power... until either it dies from lack of fuel or burns up the engine. If spark is okay I'd look for flooding issue (is the spark plug wet when it bogs down & dies?)

I haven't checked the plugs etc.. because it runs great at wot till it runs out of gas.. idles just fine...If I could meter the gas I'm sure it would run fine at wot...

If I choke it and give it a pull it pulls more gas than it should??
It comes back out of the carb...

The local Johnson expert looked at the high speed jet and he thinks it looks like the right diameter ... It's froze in place... even with heat and a special tool...

He mentioned that it might be the fuel pump diaphragm....
Which I'll check in the morning....

thanks for the input :}
