I have had this motor for a couple months now, Ive been waiting for some warm days and i have pulled start this motor maybe 4 or 5 times and always cranks on 2nd or 3rd pull even on the cold days. Ive seen other people with this same exact motor on here that has electric start i can see where the starter would be located does anybody know how to hook up electric start to it and i need to know about controls i bought this motor with just the engine and was planning to add a tiller handle now want a steering setup so what cables and wires would i need and would just any controls work?

Re: 69' Johnson 33 HP

I restored a 1968 evinrude 33, basically the same motor, however I bought mine because it was a tiller. So I didn't use controls, but I did convert to electric start. I bought a junk 40 hp with the same set up and just transfered the starter and components. I had to find my own spot for the solonoid and did a little wiring modification. Finding the parts (cheaply) is the toughest part of the project. if you look around maybe you can find one with the starter and the controls.

you need a teleflex steering system, with a transom mount, and a set of J/E simplex controls.
