Looks like the throttle switch on my 1969 55Hp Johnson is bad. (Part number #0383620 ) I'm having a hard time finding a replacement part. My outboard only goes in forward gear now.
Does anyone have a remedy for this? Is there a way to bypass the switch and improvise with another switch?
I would hate to have to buy a new control box, so I am looking at all alternatives.
(BTW...This is still part of a problem I've been trying to fix for the past month. I had water in my lower unit and thought this might be contributing to the problem. When I refilled my lower with fresh lube, the throttle worked fine...but water was still getting in.
I then had my complete lower resealed. The mechanic fixed that proplem, but the motor is still only going in forward gear. I'm suspecting it was something the repair guy did, since he broke something else while resealing the lower. Fed up, I'm back to square one.)
