69 merc 1000 Leg compare to 69 merc 1250 leg ?

Hey all got friend of a friend of a friend.....Cracked the LU on his 69 merc 1000 and he said "pushed the prop out" due to ice up. I recently found a merc 1250 online and its titled as a 71' but, the guy states in his ad, they only made the 1250's from 68' thru 69'. He says his #4 cyl has no compression but I wondered if the lower units were interchangeable ? I can get serials if it comes down to that.

They will interchange you might check gear ratio, some are slightly differant.
