'69 Merc 1000 stator test

1969 mercury 1000 2 wire stator.
I replaced the stator because the wires rotted off. Can the old stator be bench tested? How?
Because if good, I would like to solder on new wires and keep for a back up (these things ain't cheap).

As long as you have continuity yellow to yellow and none yellow to ground it will work.
