50:1, use TCW-3 minimum rating, Penzoil Synthetic Blend from Wally's Mart is a good deal and works well in most applications. Give your Merc a treat and decarbonize it with Seafoam/Deep Creep, or similar outboard mfr's decarbonization aerosol sprays.

Avoid alcohol-containing fuels (Gasohol) if possible, if you can't then use Regular grade which contains less of the alcohol (typically) than Mid or Premium grades.

The '69 1000 is the last of its kind and it was among the most refined of the 90 CI motors. Not quite as snappy as the 99 CI Inlines but you can tweak them to a very smooth idle.

BTW, prop your Merc to the high side of the rpm range as it'll like you better. Lugging any Merc inline is Bad JuJu.

Keep the impeller and gear oil fresh, feed it good gas and oil, and it'll give you many years of faithful service.

HTH and enjoy...........ed
