Well, I'm back. My old project never got off the ground, or in the water, so to speak. I could never get the motor running the way I wanted to get it on the water and I sold the thing.

http://forums.iboats.com/boat-resto...derbird-1972-mercury-1400-project-394027.html

Today I bought a '69 Renken "600AA" (according to the data plate) with an '88 Mercury 70hp. I intend to do a general clean-up/cosmetic restore as I use the boat. The biggest issue is that the trim pump is really loud and not working most of the time. Anyway, on with the pics.

As soon as I get it home I'm going to spend a day polishing/cleaning and see how things shape up :)

Red is sure a nice looking color on boats, that's a sharp looking rig you have bought!!

It's actually more of a "General Lee orange" but my crappy camera could not capture it. LOL

I will probably repaint it late in the fall and reuse my old red/white theme.

Yea I agree, I'm color blind so it looked red, but it's still a nice color, hard to keep looking good but it sure catches the eye

Got it home!!!

While turning it around in the yard by hand I also managed to punch a hole in the front bumper of my Volvo...keep in mind I brought the Volvo home from the body shop on FRIDAY with (among other things) a new front bumper!!!!!

Just been enjoying it. I had a problem I could not troubleshoot for weeks, where it would run but not accelerate. Almost stranded me the first time out. Turns out the throttle cable snapped internally.

So far the major work has been:

replaced throttle/shifter cables
cleaned up some wiring
new trailer strap (old one snapped on the ramp...doh!!)
installed a Teleflex tach that promptly crapped out on me

Ran it about 18 miles yesterday, lots of fun.
