I have a 69 Ski-Twin (33HP), that is setup with remote throttle and shift. It was originally cable steered.

I've just completed a boat restoration (see link in sig) and would like to try out the motor before I invest money in steering. See, I've never used this motor before. It runs great in the barrel though.

Is it a big deal to convert these old motors to tiller steering? Heck, I'm thinking about just attaching a homemade "tiller" to it just for testing purposes. Any ideas either way?

Re: 69 Ski-Twin Convert to tiller

OMC (r.i.p.) used to sell the tiller handle kit for your motor. If you look below at the attached picture from an old OMC Accessory Catalogue it lists the motors it is for. There also a few motors excluded from the list (e.g. manual start 40s 1970 - 74) because they already came standard with the tiller. Also the tillers are listed as fitting up to 1974, but that is because it is from a 1974 book. The handles were found on 40s through 1976, and perhaps on the Workhorse (commercial) 40 through about 1983.
