Figured I might as well make a thread of the entire restoration and just update it as I get things done.

The boat isnt in bad shape. Some rivets needs repaired, a couple paint scratches and an entirely new interior.

Below are some pictures with a few explanations.
If you guys notice something improper please let me know...dont be afraid to make suggestions Im no dummy but boat restoration is fairly new to me.

Plan on doing a nice clear lacquered cedar dash

I ripped the floor out Saturday morning and noticed the previous owner tried to spray the floor with some rubber junk (not sure how he figured that would seal it up).
They had the floors supported in the middle and the two outside edges. I think Iam planning on running some 2x4's across about every 16 inches and then mounting a 5/8's or 3/4 ply overtop. I figured its easier to find the 2x4's with screws and it makes for a much easier removal if need be. It also might be a little easier to shim the floor so I dont get any highspots.

In my previous post the other day I was talking about some white rubber gasket material inbetween the transom plate....I still cant figure if this is done properly.
Its definatly not a silicone, it feels more like a soft glue that was used to seal it up

I guess they couldnt find a short shaft motor so he took it to a marina and they ended up fabbing a higher transom. Not sure how much higher it is then the stock one but this is what it ended up at

The 83 VRO 40hp that came with it...It has the oil lines disconnected and it is running on a mixed 50:1.

Hopefully in the next couple weeks the floor will be in and I will post some more pictures of the progress.

I may get around to painting the top half of the boat in a cream white colour to match the Johnson..

ezmobee Thanks for posting your link in the other thread.

That windshield looks really good on the boat but I think I should stick to the original.. I like hanging my arm out the side sometimes when trolling for trout.
One of the main reasons I picked the boat up was for the short style windshield.

I have a friend thats been looking to do something along those lines so Im going to forward him the links if you dont mind.

i'm still concerned about that transom. in the picture it looks like they just fitted it inside the motor well, ran a plate across the stern, and then the plywood mounting plate.

Re: 69 Starcraft Falcon Resto

this is what i did with mine. removed motor well, was just riveted in place. remove all the old wood, had to go back with 3 pieces, the inner, next the hull is 1/2 cut to fit, then riped down the middle so i could get it behind the braces, the the next layer is 3/4 full width of the motor well. you could do this, and just cut it to the height you need. as you can see this boat has overkill transom bracking. i the reinstalled the motor well, raise the interior side to give more protection, reriveted, and caulked. in the second picture you can see how much i raised the motor well, on each side of the boat.

if you go to the fiberglassics.com site you can see an 1967 flier with a picture of the falcon: http://www.fiberglassics.com/starcraft/starcraftb67023.jpg

This site caters to glass boats, and I don't know if there discussion groups do a lot with the aluminum boats.

There is also a starcraft group on yahoo.

tashasdaddy, I think you are right.

It looks like they just chopped out the upper part of the transon so they could slide in a deeper piece of ply.

The motor was installed in '02 so they have used it a fair bit. The boat is rated for 40hp, do you think its a structural problem?

Iam going to do something about aluminum flashing on the back as I dont think its doing a whole lot.

Here is a shot of under the motor well so you can get a better picture for what they have done to it.

What kind of wood are you going to use for your floor tashasdaddy?

I think I may end up using some 2.4 pressure treated for the crossmembers.
