OK, Glastron fans, If faced with the choice between the '69 v156 sportster 15' tri-hull open bow and the '78 v162 futura v-hull closed bow, which would you choose and why? Oh, they would both use a '78 Merc 800 o/b. I have to make this choice because I only (barely) have room for one boat.

Hello:

My personal preference is the V-Hull. I have been in a few tri-hulls and didn't like the way they took wakes/chop or the way they turned. They are usually VERY stable when at rest for activities like fishing, having lunch and such.

BTW, I have a 96 Glastron GS 160 now w/ a 1979 Merc 140hp outboard.

Craig

I think the '69 V156 is a great looking boat. I'm looking for one myself. I agree with 79Merc140 though, the tri-hulls smack the waves more.

I have a '73 V-156 and have been restoring it lately. If an overhaul as not been done, much of the wood - the floor, stringers and possibly the transom may be rotted - poke around. However, I am very fond of it but it is the first and only boat I have owned. This boat great on smooth water, but abruptly becomes a bronco ride on a windy day. The small size is easy to deal with if you gave limited storage space and the trihull makes the most use of the space, V-hulls become much more practical around 17'.

I'm a proud owner of a '78 V 162 Futura and highly recommend it. In my opinion, you won't find a better-riding boat for its size. I've also spent a lot of time on a V156 Sportster. It's a great boat, but feels a lot smaller than the V162 and doesn't have as smooth a ride. Besides...............the V162 looks fast just sitting at the dock!!
