Re: 6hp carb issue
Wow, looks like my 1965 model.
I'll offer what little help I can, seeing as how I'm new to boat motors myself....(it is a little intimidating working on something unfamiliar.)
This is based on my own experience - your mileage may vary.
A manual really does help... and they aren't too expensive. (It is WELL worth whatever you pay - mine was $25 with shipping) .....and I don't get commission for selling for IBOATS, Evinrude, EBAY or KEN COOKE.)
Where I had trouble with MY particular 6HP was.... (I had to go into the carb 3 times.) Adjusting the float height, general cleaning of the passageways and adjusting the slow speed needle.
I used spray can carb cleaner to get it clean, several cans ...you really need compressed air as well, and a pair of safety glasses - the chemicals in the carb cleaner are NOT friendly to your skin / face / and certainly not your eyes.
Do yourself a favor a read Joe Reeves' info on adjusting the carb's slow speed needle, TWICE... 1-1/2 turns didn't work for me but my needle wasn't exactly to spec, but it will get you in the right direction.... get an OEM carb kit WITH a "plastic" float and the little tiny clip that hooks the float to the needle for $25 or less - if yours has a cork float.
Get some new "ethanol proof" fuel lines too.
READ, READ and then read again the "TOP SECRET FILES". If you get lost or confused ASK QUESTIONS.... the people on this forum are INCREDIBLE!!!
