hard to start. New spark plugs,did comp.checkk,fresh fuel,so i pulled the air filter box put 3 fingers over carb. Started up then i removed my fingers, engine starts to die.put two fingers back over the carb.runs fine.....removed the carb.cleaned and reused same gaskets,reinstalled ..same thing happen had to cover carb.to start and run w/2 fingers over carb.??? Mabe sucking air past carb.?what do i check next..

Carb bowl filling Ok when bulb operated?

Primer pump Ok?

Slow running mixture correctly adjusted?

Reckon you have not cleaned the carb properly. Make sure all jets and passages clear. Rebuild with new gaskets. Carb repair kit maybe a wise investment.

Based on what little experience I have:

Sounds like either the needle & seat are worn out, the float needs adjusting, or you have a bad seal on the gasket you reused.

An OEM carb kit with a new float was only about $25 in my neck of the woods.

PS - when you clean the carb and you feel like its all clean... go back over it and clean it again... it took 3 cleanings to get ALL the gunk out of mine.

Does it run with the choke on?

That sounds like the carb is flooding but that is not consistent with only running with the intake partly covered!

Where is it leaking from. the gasket at the top of the bowl, the plug covering the high speed orifice, the connection for the primer pump or out of the intake?

This model has a pump type primer rather than a flap type choke ?

Is that working Ok.

Thanks a new carb kit and good cleaning did the job runs just fine now thanks again
