6hp evinrude

I pulled my 6hp evinrude[older model] out, cleaned the plugs,put in new gas -and after a few pulls, it started and runs--but won't idle down[did fine last summer].Is this just a matter of playing with the lean/rich mixture knob?

it's probably a dirty carb, if it's been sitting. you can try carb adjustments: http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=167352

do any of the fuel additives work for cleaning carbs?[I'm no mechanic]

seafoam use in you gas, maintains a clean carb. carb cleaner when strayed into a carb does nothing except strip the lubrication off the innards of the engine. time for a rebuild kit. it's a simple little carb. just don't move the linkage adjustment. get a mech inclined friend to help.
