hi
does anybody know if there are any major differences between a 1969 evinrude and a 1976 johnson 6hp? or advantages of one over the other. they both look pretty similar to me. i'm looking at both to buy one or the other. they are with in $50 of each other.

Not much. The 6hp didn't get CD ignition until a bit later, so they have the same ignitions. I'd get whichever one looks to have been better taken care of...

They're pretty close to the same thing. I'd look at them with an eye to which one has the least hours. Check compression, using the same gauge on both.

I'd consider it a toss-up between the two.

Read in the 1976 Evinrude ad booklet "The Evinrude 6, new this year, rates special attention, 20% more thrust than the great little 6 it replaces, This year a new propeller that converts the extra power into performance. "

76,77,78 and 79 ware the best years of these kickers
