6hp running on one cylinder

The other day, my 6hp stopped running on both cylinders. It wasn't a instantaneous stop, but it went back and forth between one and two cylinders, and now is just running on one. What is the most plausible cause for this? My first guess would be spark plug, then next would be re-set the points.

My main worry is some sort of fuel system that is clogged, and not allowing fuel into the cylinder. Thanks for any help!

It looks like it's time to pull the flywheel and have a look at your coils too. If you see signs of cracking of the coils, replace the coils. Be sure to include an inspection of the condensers, points, and plug wires too. I'm assuming you have a magnito system and not a CDI ignition.

It's very unlikely the cause is the the fuel system. Both cylinders get fuel from the same source (the carb) at the same time.

Could also be a head gasket blown out. Check for evidence of water on the plugs. Usually, the one that's blown out will have water on it, or look like it's been steam cleaned....
- Scott

Before going after the flywheel, points and coils, check the plugs. Then check for spark. If you have good spark you probably have a fuel related problem. If you don't have spark, then go after the ignition system. But by all means do the obvious, easy, and cheap things first. A compression check is certainly in order.
