6hp sea king overheating

I have a 6hp sea king that originaly had a bad water pump in it. The original pump was an eight blade but all I can find are five blade. I put the five in and cleaned out the debris and the pump works (I've removed the motor and driven the shaft with a drill and get water through the pipe) but the motor will only run about three minutes before it gets hot and starts to get tight. This hasn't done any damage yet, (I've removed the head and checked and also replaced the gasket, but still have the same problem.) but I also can't get any use out of the motor like this. the model # is VWB19073A and the serial is 56XC12369. If the pump is the problem does anyone have one or know of someone who does? If it's not the problem does anyone have any ideas?<br /><br />Thanks<br />Steve

Hey Steve,<br />Does that little devil have a thermostat? If so, remove it and see if it still overheats. Three minutes is about how long it would take to open up if it's operating properly.<br />Backlash

sounds like the debris you mention might have travelled up into one of the passages. You might have to remove the exhaust port cover and check there for a blockage (will need to replace the gasket(s) after removal). Solve the t.stat issue first, per the previous post.

I have found some folks that closed a dealership and are slowly selling off the stock. their e-mail address is:<br /><br />linda@nu-z.net<br /><br />they should have what you need. the other option is the NAPA auto parts store. They also carry some parts for these motors.<br /><br />Trp251
