My motor seems to die while its running at any speed and the primer bulb keeps going soft in fact its hard to even get it firm . I was wondering if it was the bulb or the fuel pump . It will stay running if i keep priming it but a few moments after I stop it dies . This happened on my 50hp a few years ago and it turned out to be the pump. I also noticed that the brass fitting on the tank was lose and tightening it didn't help. I rebuilt the carb last spring but I'm going take it apart again just to see if the float is working .

Re: 6r74c fuel problem

If when you pump the fuel primer bulb up hard, no fuel flows out of the carburetor... the float is okay.

The fuel primer bulb does not stay hard when the engine is running, the fuel drops down to the halfway level inside the bulb. The fact that the engine will run as long as you pump the fuel primer bulb (acting as a manual fuel pump) indicates that the fuel pump is not functioning.
