7.4 Mercruiser upgrades while engine is out ?

Hi, just bought a boat today with a 7.4 merc that needs to be installed. Just wandering if anyone has any low cost upgrade suggestions before I put the engine back in. This is my first I/0, don't know if car type upgrades are useful or available for boat engines, such as Intake, carb, exhaust, ignition upgrades. Any recomendations before I install the engine ?

Welcome aboard beel!! What year? Model? What drive? Bravo? Then it's definitely worth discussing. Alpha? Then you'll be living on borrowed time. Needs to stay around 300 bhp max for an Alpha . . .

Check into marine ignition requirements; that also matters a lot if you plan on switching.

It is a 1990 Larson Senza 210lx, the drive says 7.4 on it, I think maybe Bravo also ? Can anyone comment on my other post regarding water in the oil ?? Thanks
