Little background on this "project" boat I bought a while back, posted here before about it. Probably should have got out from under it but decided to give it a try...
1995 Century Arabian 240
Mercruiser 7.4/Bravo I outdrive
Had a slight overheating problem last year that gradually became worse and worse. Started out only heating up when running hard the first few trips, last time I had it out last year it got really hot and was blowing steam.
Replaced head gaskets over winter. Old head gaskets were automotive style, very worn but not obviously blown. Had heads (resurfaced), checked for cracks, manifolds and risers checked as well. New seawater and engine water pumps replaced. (didn't find anything that really stood out to make it blow steam other than the head gaskets)
Fired up on the muffs for the first time today since re-assembly. Not blowing steam anymore or overheating, but the starboard riser is quite a bit hotter than the port. Like 30 degrees hotter....did notice at one time it cooled down for a bit but then seemed to warm up again. This is all at idle on the muffs. I remember it them being different temperatures before, but is normal for running on the muffs? Thought about taking it to the boat ramp and idling it there to see what happens? Or maybe I have something more major?
On a good note I did pick up a bravo one upper on ebay over the winter. Sounded great on the muffs, will see how it does on the water. My old one sounded like a wrench in a garbage disposal when trimming up or turning, this one is nice and quiet.
