7.5 Gamefisher Shift Problem

Can I remove the 6 bolts holding the exhaust shaft to the power head with out messing anything up. My motor does not shift into gear and when I removed the lower unit the whole shift rod came out from the top. There was a washer with a cotter pin attached at the top of the rod. So I am sure something got jarred loose. I thought I could remove the bolts and take a look. I am hoping the only thing I need to be careful about is the gasket.

I've never taken one of those apart but you should be alright. Nothing is going to spring out at you .
