7.5 hp Montgomery Ward recoil cord

I got a 7.5 hp ward outboard for my duck boat the only thing that was wrong with it was it need a new cord that snapped. i took it off and replaced it but the cord doesnt wanna rewind back.... i know im doing something wrong any help is a appreciated.

Not knowing exactly which 7.5 you have I'm speaking generically.You need to take the cord out and wind up the spool just enough so the spring can fully rewind the cord.Be sure you turn it the correct way.This assumes the rewind spring is still in place.You may need a C clamp or something to hold the spool while you attach the cord.
