Re: 7.5 johnson seahorse

Welcome 742!

Yep, it's a 1981. Oil mix is 50:1. Use a good tcw-3 rated outboard oil.

Somethings I recommend on a "new" used outboard, do a decarb and then take a compression reading and keep it handy for future reference. If you don't know when the last time the impeller and t-stat was serviced, that would be a good idea to do. Replacement of both is inexpensive and easy to do.

Use a fuel system cleaner in your fuel like BRP's 2+4...it's cheap to use and will keep the gas fresh.

Check your lower unit frequently if the engine is used a lot. I would hope you have already done this. Water in a lower unit can get expensive.

Get a service manual. OEM's are preferred. Read it and follow it's guide lines for engine care. OEM reprints are available through several different Co's. like Ken Cook Co. Just do a search on the web. Generic service manuals are available also....check the bottom of the page here for manuals.

If you have any questions about the engine, you can post them here....good help here on the forums.
