7.5 merc

i have a 1973 merc. 7.5hp serial #3623387,i need to find a lower unit. could someone tell me what year lower units will fit this motor? also will a 9.8 lower unit interchange with a 7.5? Thank you much for any help!!! mike

There are many variations of shift rods,reverse locks and troll (tilt) on the 7.5 and 9.8 engines, I beleive some shift opisite directions but if you find the right combination of these things and don't care which way the shift lever moves they will interchange

'73 is the first year they used the new style shift shaft, so anything from '73 to as late as '78ish will work (9.8hp or 7.5hp).<br />Eric
