I've read through 30+ pages of posts and couldn't find info on this motor. Could someone please ID this Sea King? I plan to buy a manual but don't know what year to get.

Mod # - K7524106A
Type - XTV5370A
Ser # - 1200149

Thanks

Re: 7.5 Sea King info help

Your motor is a 76 built by Clinton. They have been out of business for some years. It uses an air cooled Clinton power head with a water cooled Exhaust leg.An after market service manual covering many brands below 30 hp should work for you.You may find one right here at
iboats.or a number of other sources including the library.Parts will be difficult to find.A small engine shop may have parts for the power head. You may see some parts on eBay.Fuel mix is 48:1.Most reccomend chain saw 2 stroke oil.Outboard gear lube for the lower unit.
These motors are a comprimise at best so I wouldn't put too much money into it until you decide if you like it.

OK, now I have the year... any clues where to find an illustrated parts break down or service manual?

Again you may find aftermarket service manuals right here. A parts breakdown would be a lucky find.I did a very brief search on google basically nothing of any value.A few minor ignition parts.
You could watch eBay as many brands of outboard parts and manuals turn up regularly.

Just what do you want to do? I have a Blue 74 I think Monkey Wards SeaKing 7 1/2, great compression, no spark, missing the top gas tank. Good lower unit and impeller. I'm ready to just about throw it away as its in my way. If your interested, email me at hogrider@ Myway.com Anyway, what do you need to do? Those motors are so simple to work on, I can probably answer any question.

Re: 7.5 Sea King info help

I was given this motor with a 14' Valco I bought for $200. Overall it's in amazing condition and has probably less than 20 hours on it. Everything on it is completely original. It starts on first or second pull, has great compression and will probably last for years to come... here's my problem. Because it spent most of its life in somebody's garage, propped up in a corner, the lower end took some abuse. The cast aluminum screw holes that are used to mount the bottom fin/gear cover have been broken away. I've drilled, tapped and extended the depth of the original holes to secure the cover but would certainly be interested in something more original and secure. If your lower will fit my 76' I'd be interested in buying it from you. I also need the tilt clamp for this motor. Aside from that Id like to know what fuel ratio you use and also what weight/type of lower gear lube you'd recommend.

Re: 7.5 Sea King info help

Allready been covered, maybe you better reread your posts to be sure you have covered all the info you wanted.Again keep in mind this motor is a comprimise at best.they are underpowered, not particularly reliable, lots of vibration, dwindling parts source.A 5,5.5,6 or 7.5 Eninrude or Johnson will out perform the motor on all points and routine parts are available back to the early 50s.
Fuel mix on your motor is 48:1 Use chain saw 2 stroke oil.Lower unit lube is standard outboard gear lube.

Go to your public library and find the Intertec Outboard Motor Service Manual, Volume 1, outboard motors below 30 horsepower from 1969 (motors built since 1969, not book published in 1969). There are parts diagrams for both the powerhead (Clinton chapter) and the lower unit (Sea King chapter). Also service step-by-steps and spec charts. Photocopy them. Or find the whole manual on eBay, Half.com, Amazon, whatever.

You will not be happy with the motor for long if you use your boat a lot. It is great for occaisional use. I keep a very similar one in a buddy's shed up North, along with a 12' aluminum Jon boat chained to a tree on the river bank. When I go a-visitin' I don't need to take the pickup truck and haul a boat along. Hop in the car, drive on up, and the boat & motor are ready and waiting. Get some fresh chainsaw gas from the shed, dust off the Eska, and I'm on the river fishing. The thing starts well, runs crappy, burns very little fuel, and does the job. Same deal as you got, $200 for boat and motor. If hoodlums steal the motor or the boat I'm not out a whole lot.

PS - If you only use it occaisionally, like i described, when you're done for the weekend turn the fuel petcock off and run the motor until the carburator is dry (on the river, in the water, so the motor doesn't overheat). When you get back pour the gas from the tank back into the chainsaw cas can. Leave the vent screw open on the outboard's gas cap but put the cap back on lightly to keep dust & debris out. I never winterize it or anything. Very little fuss. It's just a big weedeater.

Re: 7.5 Sea King info help

ITSTIPPY, thanks for the info. I'll treat it like the free motor it is until I can afford something better.

Spike, Your "cut and paste" advice has been helpful but you could lose the attitude. I was actually responding to Scaaty and looking for a second opinion on the fuel mix.

Re: 7.5 Sea King info help

There is a company called CEPCO (Clinton Engines Co) in Maquoketa Iowa that still has parts and possibly literature. I'll leave it up to you to hunt up the phone number. I hear they will return your call if they feel like it.
