7.5 Ted Williams Problems!

Hello, I'm new to the forums. I recently purchased a 7.5 Ted Williams. I do not know the year but the serial number is 271-5888-1. Does anyone know the year. Also i changed the lower unit oil with 2 stroke lube from gander. I mixed 24/1 TCW 3 oil with 93 octane unleaded.
I got the motor to run in barrel and in lake but it takes 30 pulls and alot of messing around( I would like it to fire in nuetral and on 1 or 2 pulls). I cannot get the engine to idle(or start on idle, I must start it in gear and almost wide open). When I get it started its ok but you can tell its able to do more( it seems to almost go up and down a little, with fluctuations and not stay solid), it seems almost to bog down. I also changed out the spark plug with a autolite spark plug rj14yc to a .03 gap. I also added seafoam to the gas and added about .5 ounces direct to the gas line in hopes to clean it out. Any ideas why I cannot get it to idle. I'm a newbie to boat motors but I am good at tearing and rebuilding things just as long as its not overkill complicated. Any ideas where to start or try, or something I'm doing wrong so far. Thanks so much, Ramzzey13.

go a head and quit now...

search this forum, look for my "eska files" post.

You most likly need to start with a kit for your carb, and a tecumseh manual

Re: 7.5 Ted Williams Problems!

did you say you put 2 stroke oil in the lower unit? you want gear lube in the lower unit, something like 90 weight.

sounds like you need a carb rebuild. at least clean it out, check needle and seat, float settings.
