7 hp ted williams

i just picked up an old ted williams motor in good condition i want to find out how old it is so i can get parts for it. the only numbers i have found on it were on a little tag on the side of the motor t-639-11 and 5424445 is this the model and sn ? i have been doing alot of reading and these numbers are not anything like the ones i keep seeing. is there some place else i should look for numbers? any help is greatly appreciated thanks

If it's painted green, neighbor had one back in '55 and it was several years old. Closest I can get. I think Elgin made the engine for sears or Elgin was the other brand name Sears carried, maybe before the Ted Williams. Elgin was green. West Bend as I recall made them for sears....West Bend who turned into Chrysler who turned into Force...... best I can remember.

That first number is a Tecumseh model number. They built the powerhead. If you need engine parts (as opposed to lower unit stuff etc...) you can get most of it at lawn mower parts sources like this one:

What's wrong with it? Hopefully you've got spark...because some of those used early versions of solid state ignition and parts are next to impossible to find in working order.

Look closer for the Sears number...it should start with 217.XXXXXX......that will yield the year. I think you're going to find that it's a late 60's motor.
