I have a 70 with a 85 hp but it does not have trim or tilt. I know not much about boats. I have it on a 17 ft 77 ranger what hole do i stick in in to use it best for fishing on the miss river by st louis?

Less lower unit in the water, the less drag. Too high you lose water pressure and experience blow out. Perfect is just before that happens. What is your WOT rpm at the setting you have now?

it really is an experiment, as each combo is different. start with, 2nd hole out, then try one in and one out. to get best overall performance.

Sorry Patrick, as Dhadley said, WOT is Wide Open Throttle, so at WOT, what rpm are you at? What are your main uses for the boat?

I have not even had it in the water yet so I would not know about the rpms, I still have to figure out how to hook up the rpm gage. I just put the motor on yesterday and have some other boat stuff to do before I take it to the water. I will be using it for cat fishing on the miss riiver by st louis. The motor is on a 17 ft 77 ranger.
