Try not using the choke as much when you re-start. It's possible that you are flooding the motor. Also look at your fuel line connections. You may be loosing your prime with a loose fuel line clamp or a bad primer bulb. If it runs good otherwise, don't re-adjust the carb until you have tried these basic things. Every motor has it's "way" of starting.

If by "awhile" you mean a couple-three hours or more, if it don't fire up at the first bump of the key, it's cooled off.

Here's what I do...lift the hi-idle lever up about half-way and try again. If that don't do it, lift it up all the way and bump it again. Still no go, punch the choke (don't hold it in, just pop it once) while cranking. If it hasn't started by now, check the emergency lanyard and the primer bulb.

If you have to lift the hi-idle lever with every warm start, after sitting for a short time, most likely cause is carb float valves letting a little fuel past when you stop, floods the motor just a little, makes for difficult warm starts.

Idle speed set too slow is a possibility, should be around 850-900 in gear in the water.
