A 1989 70 hp Evinrude - non regulated system. I have replaced the rectifier, stator and flywheel in an attempt to settle it down. It is still putting out 16 1/2 volts.???

You should have asked here first. I think we could have saved you a lot of money. 16V is pretty much normal for an unregulated system. The only thing you can do is turn more electrical things on (lights, radio, etc). Another solution is to replace the rectifier with a rectifier/regulator

Using a larger capacity battery, such as a deep cycle group 27 size, or 2 batteries in parallel will absorb the excess voltage. Do not use sealed or maintenence free batteries with an unregulated system.

I can add the voltage regulator but I don't understand if the system was working fine. Nothing has been added or changed. My VHF now drives my Tach crazy when I transmit and is it connected.
