Starting a new thread here as my originial problem has been determined to not be the problem at all. Here's the story...
Several months ago, took my 1992 70 Hp Evinrude in to a mechanic to have the carbs rebuilt as they were full of old gas and gunk. Motor had sat in yard for about a year. Sometime during the "link and sync" process the mechanic was unable to get the motor started. He told me it was the primer solenoid and for way to much money he could fix it. Decided I would then take this on myself. Well it turns out there is nothing wrong with the primer solenoid as I can see that it is squirting gas into the the intake of the engine.
So where shall I look next? Engine spins but doesn't fire. I have a new battery, working primer solenoid, new fuel pump, and new spark plugs. Assuming I need to verify I have spark next. What's the best way to check for spark? Have one person turn the key while I look for spark on each plug pulled from the engine (and still connected to the wire of course). Any other thoughts out there? I do have a old power pack (it just doesn't stop the engine) I could try to see if that might be my problem as well.
