I ordered a new Mercury control side mount for my skiff and installed it on the new to me 70 hp 1993-4 Force motor. The throttle is stiff, I lubed everything but it is real hard to move or at least compared to the Johnson remote. Anyways, I'm going to keep spraying all points of movement on the motor to loosen that up I hope. The motor fired right up and after digging out a mud dobber nest it also pees real well. I ran it for about 5 minutes on the muffs and it idles perfect but when I give it a little gas in neutral it sounds like it has a miss that comes and goes or is inconsistant. It has Champion plugs in it and I'm gonna try putting new NGK plugs in tomorrow and see if that makes a difference. I pulled them and they are a little oily looking but they look kind of old so that will be my first thing. Wires look good. I'll post back if I still have a miss and maybe someone who is good with this motor can help, it is the single carburater 3 cylinder and the motor looks real clean for it's age and I shifted it forward and reverse and all seems well. Any suggestions I'm open and I've been reading all the good info here so I hope to get on the water and test this in a few days.

The spark plugs appear to have fixed the miss and the throttle is a little better after alot of spray and moving back and forth.

That's just the way of things. A clear spark (in the eye), lubrication, and a little back and forth practice. It just don't get much better.

If you don't have any history on your new motor, a smart move would be to replace the impeller and fuel pump diaphragm , even though you say it pumps fine now. These two items have caused more problems than you can imagine, and are considered service items at least to me they are . Good luck with the new motor, MOPARMAN
