Hi all, i have a 56 inch 70 hp johnson 1986 with a raker 22 on and it get me to 52 miles/hour at 6100 rpm. Engine height is kav plate 6 inch above bottom of hull with 6 inch setback.Engine has shaved heads, boyesen reeds and 22 deg timing advance.65D mains and 31 pilot. Also tried 21 inch ballistic but has to run engine lover and max out at 48 mph and 6200 rpm.Is an 49 incher 70hp faster than my 56 inch 70?Anyone have a good ssuggestion what proprller to try next.

Chopper/Cleaver pitch vs Raker?

Thanks for any input
Ronny in Norway

Welcome!!

I'd try the 24 Raker or a 24 Turbo Lightning Jr if you can find one. Or maybe have someone like Mazco build a performance prop. But that really depends on what type hull it is.

As far as which is faster, if you compare what you've done to doing the same on a 49 ci, I'd bet the 56 is faster.

Thanks, and thanks for reply,
do you have any ideas how early timing these engins may take before meltdown, I noticed 2-300 rpm increase from 18 deg to 22 deg but have had some warnings from others that 20 deg is max

I run a little 14 feet norvegian V bottom called Musling 14

Ronny

As long as you dump enough fuel you can run that timing. Combustion temp is the key. That should be a very cool ride!

Thanks again, yes on flat water it is funny to see just what to get out of this little boat and even funnier to pass double size powered boats.
It is chine walking abit but mostly controllable with small steering input but it somtimes get wild though.I looked at the propeller test here and think that as you said Raker or Turbo 24 is the one to test next. If I order a Turbo 24 for my engine will I then get the 24 Turbo Lightning Jr or is that a spesial prop?(I have 13 splines)

Any idea how to get part number for 66D/67D/68D jets, my partstore only has a c jet list

They quit making the Lightning Jr (for some obscure reason) so you'll have to ask for it specifically. Turbo has a distributor in Norway or somewhere over there. Contact Kathleen at Turbo and ask about a 24 Lightning Jr. or the distributors name. Tell her Dale says hello.

Just want to say that I had no luck with the Turbo so I ordered a 24 Raker, I will let you know how it goes, allso have put some pictures of the "dingy" here....

http://home.online.no/~jmarpede/ronnMuslingMY.html

Is it big differences in the old and new Rakers bite? tried a Johnson 23" Cupped and with vent holes Alu propeller, just lotsa splashing allso made me loose waterpressure, managed around 42-43 mph at same height as I used with the Raker, managed 46mph when lowered about two inch.

Ronny again
