Ok.. First, Mercury Force is just a Mercury motor right? Someone told me it wasn't really Mercury. Second, there is oil leaking slowly from I believe the lower unit.. I have a 1979 80HP Mercury that I just had to replace the water pump on, are the two lower units similar? Reason I ask is that I didn't want to have to go by a manual. Any help would be appreciated.

No, it's a Force motor made by Merc. after Merc. bought them out. Same old force powerhead design. Lower units are similar, but it's always a good idea to have the manual. If you are going to keep the motor for any length of time you will end up needing it.

You may be confusing a lower unit leak with discharge from the exhaust holes in the lower unit. One test is to put some of the stuff on your finger and take a whif. If it smells like gas it is gas oil mix unburned coming out of your exhaust.
Test two is to remove your drain plug (about the size of a dime) located near the skeg and drain a couple of drops of lower unit oil. If it is dark or brown it is okay. If water comes out or the oil is milky white you have a leak in the lower unit.

It is common to have gas and oil mix coming out of the lower unit. It happens more when trolling and docking which requires low speeds and a rich condition on your carbs.

I believe the 70hp Force/Mercury motor used an older model Mariner/Mercury lower unit.
But I can't tell you which will fit.
Some had different components ( driveshaft length and water tube ) and gearing.
