Want to thank all that has helped me get my evinrude up and going. It runs great now. All I want to know is before I cleaned tha carbs I could not go under 4.7 mph without it dying, now I can go to 2.5 mph but it starts to run rough. Should I increase my idle? It Idles at 750 rpms warm and in gear. Also my manual says you can run this motor up to 5000-6000 rpms. 6000 rpms sound high to me. I have a 15 pitch prop and could easily reach 6000 but I keep it under 5600 at all times. Don't even need to trim it to get this. What pich prop do you think I could use?

Re: 70 hp rpm,

750rpm idle in gear sounds right. You might be able to adjust your low speed jet to smooth the idle out but I wouldn't idle it any higher. To much wear and tear on the clutch dogs when you put it in gear if you do.
The engine can turn the 6k ok but if it goes over that, you probably should increase the prop pitch. As a rule of thumb, one inch of prop pitch changes engine speed 200rpm. If you go up one inch in pitch, the engine will drop off about 200rpm.

c/6

Hooty
