This is a 1993 Johnson that came with my 1995 Scout Boat 153 Sport 2. The boat,I was told, was bought new and never used. In the two years before it was put on this boat it must of been used some but in two years you wouldn't think much. Recently I rebuilt the water pump and changed the LU oil and today I started it. It started and ran but I have a few questions I ask in the videos so pleas watch and tell me what you think. Thanks for any help. Sorry about the order of the videos but the second one is part one and the first is part two.

water out of the lower unit holes normal. I would absolutely rebuild the carbs if it has vro disconnect that I wouldn't trust it after sitting that long. keep running 50 to 1 gas mix

In the first (bottom) video you had the primer solenoid (red lever) manually opened so that would account for the rough running and extra smoke.

Was that water & gas running down the leg or just gas?

Any 'flooding' gas should either go into the air box for recycling or get swallowed directly by the motor and unburnt gas should go down the exhaust tube.

Have a good look around the pan to try & see where it's coming from.

The self test chirp was quite a long beep I'm not sure what's going on there?

Is the VRO operational or not?

The VRO is disconnected. That was just gas running down the leg it was coming from a carb. According to my owners manual because the primer solenoid was out of position the gas was coming from the carb's air inlet. I was wondering about the long beep too but after the first time there was only a short beep which I assume is normal.

Hello your video told you what the problem is in the first video that motor is running on 3 cyl because the primer was acting as the carb. In the second video you lost a cyl when you closed it just clean the carbs and you will have a really nice motor. I have one of these motors one of my favorites. Also when you get it out on the lakle you may find the fuel pump is bad but i wouldn't cross that bridge till you need to

The air box should catch that fuel you should check why it doesn't.

Thanks a lot as you saw I was expecting I would have to clean and rebuild the carbs. I was beating my brains out with an idle issue with my Mercury then I soaked it in Yamaha carb cleaner and that fixed it. At least that seems like that was it so I'll probably do the same with these carbs.

On the bright side, you probably have one of the best OB's ever made and to find one like new is fantastic. Just do a complete rebuild on all three carbs and don't cut corners and not pop the lead plugs out. Total cost should be around a hundred if you have the carb soak solution already.
