im working on a bass boat i bought cheap that has a evinrude 70hp outboard
1984--3cyl--2 stroke

when the shift-throttle lever is pushed fully forwards the cam in the motor seems to be nearly fully turned and the butterflys are opening but they are not fully open. even if you push the cam to the highest spot the butterflys are still not level. i read in another forum post that the roller should have a clear sleeve but after looking at online part sales the sleeve is no longer sold. im presuming that the new throttle roller they sell no longer requires a sleeve. the roller on the outboard is black plastic and measures 10mm thats about 3/8" is this correct?. if im looking at this all wrong please tell me which adjustment i have wrong (kinda thinking that a bigger roller would open the carb fully but the roller would have to be nearly 1/2")

the little nylon roller on the cam , diameter 10mm x 12mm the hole in the center u can measure the pin on your cam, to do the adjustment for the butterfly,s i loosen all the linkages that connect to the center carb , then check to see if they open & close individually , if that's all good then reconnect to the center carb again , if it doesn't check on the other side of the center carb where the butterfly shaft goes through there is a pin through the shaft , sometime that pin catches the nut where the carb bolts to the intake manifold if it does then move it up a little to clear the nut , if that all good then adjust the cam with the butterfly's closed , cheers

I use clear plastic hose from ACE Hardware, works great.

Re: 70hp evinrude throttle roller size

thanks for your help. turns out there was a multitude of problems. i made the sleeve but that only made it a little better then when i was fixing a problem with the warm up lever being loose that made the cable shift a little further which nearly fixed the problem. then after reading your help about the pin hitting the carb stud i realised that the carb linkage had been set to compensate for that at some point so i finnaly have carbs that open and close correctly....so thats one problem down lol
