engine wants to go in reverse while trying to crank it. want stay cranked. please help this old alabama boy.

slabs <br /><br />Try adjusting your shift cable at the motor using the trunion nut on the cable. It may be adjusted to far toward reverse and slipping into gear when trying to start the motor.

Maybe it's an electric shift.<br /><br />What year is it??

I believe its a 73or74 , the model # is 70esLl74m, would this also be the reason for it not to crank, also i see fuel coming from the carbs when trying to crank. (thanks for your reply)

thanks rick i will look at the cable, any thing you think of please let me know, the crappie are bitting.
