70hp Johnson Power Trim

I am rebuilding an old boat that has a 1983 70hp Johnson. The first thing that I am trying to do is to get the Power trim to work. I pulled the solenoid switches, and as I did one of them needed to be replaced. I got all the wiring reworked to the solenoids and get the expected click from them, but the trim motor does nothing. I might need to replace the motor but not without being certain. Can I take the motor and connect the leds directly to the battery terminals? It is a three wire motor, so two are hot and one is ground. If I connect one hot led to positive and the ground to negative, should the power trim motor power up one direction?

should have blue green and black, black is ground. blue and green are direction. the up is connected to the solenoid. down is just a direct connect.
