Hi all, just picked up a 1978 Johnson seahorse 70hp, lower unit is in major need of repair, no matter what gear selection, shaft won't turn prop and reverse is the same (prop won't turn shaft). While replacing the gears is an option, i've found another lower unit. Was just wondering what years will bolt up? In the manual I have it doesn't seem to really specify the sizes, just says "All units 1978 and on." So, given the fact the manual covers years 1973-1991, would I be safe to assume these Lower units were basically generic for 65-70hp through to say 135hp after '78 through to '91? Any info would be greatly appreciated. I guess i'm mostly curious about that, however, The lower unit in question is from a 1979 Johnson 70hp. That should bolt up no problem, right?
