Well everyone I have my boat and motor back from the merc dealer... the bill came to 1602.96 bucks for one melted piston and one heating problem I asked what prop to run on my 70 and JB was a big help.. I now have the right prop on there!!!! The one that was on there was making the engine rev to high, it was a 13??? and the one that was to be on there is a 15. and thats whats on there now so now Iam worried to even take the thing out .because Iam just goin to be paranoide it some thing goes wrong! they had to put a Quick silver water pump in it cause they said it was not getting any water pressure, and that my motor does not need a POPIT VALVE I told them I just put a new pump in it a week ago !!! they said that it wasn,t building any pressure so they didn,t charge me for the newer pump which I thaught was nice but I asked them about a warrenty and they said that they would get back to me after the boss got back and he would deside on the warrenty thing and for how long. I feel as if I shouldn,t even start the motor till I get my warrenty what do you people think?? and how long of a warrenty should I get?? they didn,t have to put new bearings in just new piston new rings rebuild carbs, gaskets ,labour and there was 11 bolts broke that they had to exstracked. so is this a fair price or what? oh ya they have had my motor since the 12 of june and I got it back today and its the 14 of july. let me know what you think of all this thanks again for your support Barry..:O

Hi again, Barry. For what they did you got a fair price, but welcome to one of the most important reasons why boaters need to be part-time wrenches.

Red sky at night. . . .
JB

I agree with Crom. I would liked to of heard 3 new pistons, but if the rings were changed it about the same thing.

Under proping will let the engine run to fast, yes, but it's about the last thing that will melt pistons. Over proping/lugging the engine will melt piston tops because combustion temps get wild when you over load a 2 stroke. You got 1700 tied up now, part with another 70-80 bucks and buy a tach and a temp gauge.

My thoughts on rebuilding an engine are, all new parts usually carry a 1 year warranty. There's no sense in not replacing any part that doesn't look like it will live at least one year along with the new parts going in. I would say you should get at least 6 months on any part of the engine that was worked on. That would be the basic powerhead's internal parts and anything they damage if they let loose.
