70's? 40h.p. Evinrude where does it ground to kill engine?

40 horse Evinrude "Big Twin" with Selectric drive. Year unknown. Model # 40773E Serial #03480. Somebody wired it wrong. Everything is good now except for the fact that the engine won't stop. I can't find the wire that grounds the electrical system, and even if I did, I wouldn't know how to wire it up to the key-switch. should be a black wire w/ yellow stripe hooks to key switch post marked with M<br />(there is probably two wires like that connected to 2 posts, both marked M, if that is the case, switch them)

To sto this motor you "connect" each set of breaker points together via the key switch. One set is "closed" while the other is "open" (in normal operation)and they alternate this movement between each cylinder. So to stop the engine, look at the mag plate and you will see two small black wires, (usually each connects to a "quick-connect" plug in connector,these wires end up at the key switch. Connect these two leads to each of the "M" terminals on the switch. These terminals are "closed" when the key if off, and "open" when the key is on.

Thank you both for responding. I will have to rewire it; the exsisting wiring looks like an ill-fated attempt at contemporary art. <br />I bought a book for the boat, and have a couple more questions. I will make another post.<br />Thanks alot,<br />Danny
