Hi guys I have tried looking up what year my outboard is but during my efforts on checking the model against the list I have found on this and other sites I can not find it at all some of the 70's model numbers are close but no exact match
I am at work so I dont have the number here will post it when I get home so my question is "i have ordered a book already and am hoping it covers my engine 6hp long shaft 2stroke" Q? what type of lube can I use for the for the lower case and how much will it take and even more important there is no dipstick on the upper screw how do I check the level any comments will be great thanks all..............

The oil level is to be clear full up to the upper hole. To add or top it off, buy the oil in a tube or one of those handy little pump deals and put the oil in the bottom hole till it flows out the top. Keeping the tube in the lower hole, install the top plug to air lock it so the oil doesn't come gushing out when you quickly remove the tube and install the lower plug. I believe it uses Hi-Vis gearcase oil.

Have you previously posted the model number?

Re: 70's johnson 6hp seahorse

There's nothing unusual about that model number It's a 1970 6hp recoil start, long shaft. The B is an indicator of any mid-year changes that may have been made (if any) and is only important if you are ordering parts affected by the change. The parts book will indicate that if applicable. Understand, the B could mean the beginning production and no changes were ever made. Again, the parts book will tell.

EDIT: I just checked the parts book at BRP and the "B" was the only design, no mid-year changes were made.
