"71" 35HP Johnson no power

It will start and idle, but when it is put under a load it boggs down and dose not have any power. the next time it will run fine. I hit the air box the one time and it came out of it and ran fine the rest of the day. The carborator has been rebuilt twice. Any ideas other than converting to a boat anchor.

When you rebuilt the carb, did you replace the needle & seat with new ones, and set the new float height correctly? If you replaced the needle with a rubber tipped one, did you use the spring that attaches the needle to the float?<br /><br />One thing we can be certain of though, it's not a '71. Got a model number anywhere?
