Hi guys ive been trying for the last six months to get my boat up and running to take out safely lol
right here we go again, i purchased a second hand evinrude 4hp outboard as a back up which will be fitted with a outboard bracket, now the trouble i am having is that i cant get this engine to start or if it does it just cuts straight out, a friend of mine is a mechanic and even he is baffled, ok here goes......
i move the lever to run (and have tried it on fast), pull the choke about half way out (i have tried the choke in all positions) both the mixture knobs are set to in the middle ,one is idle and one is run i think.
pulled on many occasions but nothing, ok so i replaced the spark plugs with new ones and set the gap with the gauges to 0.30 which the manual suggests, i have replaced fuel with fresh fuel which is unleaded and mixed 50:1 ratio with marine two stroke oil. i have taken the spark plugs out with the leads off and checked to see if both plugs were sparking which they both are correctly a nice bright blue spark on both.
there in compression in both pots, i have checked to see if there is fuel traveling to pots which there is, a friend has suggested the carb may need stripping but he has advised me to spray a bit of damp start directly in to carbs which may clean and blow any rubbish out and hopefully start and get fresh fuel flowing.
So my question is, is there something i have not done ? its almost as if there is as kill switch operating lol
Cheers guys
Daz im determined to get in the water this year
